"The pelvis is misaligned for whatever reason, either secondary to tight muscles or weak muscles. As a result, there tends to be compression in areas where there shouldn't be compression."
Pelvic obliquity is an all-encompassing condition where the pelvis is misaligned, tilting forward, backward, or laterally. This can predispose patients to back pain, hip pain, and SI joint dysfunction. The misalignment is typically caused by muscle imbalances, tight muscles in the front or back of the body that shift the way you walk and compensate through your gait.
Dr. Knopp evaluates the musculoskeletal chain, identifying which muscles are tight, which are weak, and how the body is compensating. Treatment starts conservatively with OMT, addressing the structural misalignment directly with hands-on manipulation.
For patients who need additional intervention, Dr. Knopp utilizes newer technologies like Sprint, a peripheral nerve stimulation system. "It's medication-free. We use very thin wires to change the way nerves transmit pain from the pelvic area to your brain."
Starting with evaluation and conservative treatment, results typically develop over 3 to 6 months. The goal: "Not just treat the pain, but improve your function, being able to do things that patients were able to do before."

Pelvic misalignment is often the root cause of back, hip, and SI joint pain, and it responds to hands-on treatment before resorting to procedures.
